Greeting from EPF Chimoio from the launch of the new DMM systemIt has been a “revolutionary” day here in EPF Chimoio! We say revolution in the sense of a profound change. This change comes within the school itself, the teachers and students.
As of today there are 63 thin clients and monitors installed and operating on the new server, meaning, there is essentially one virtual computer accessible for every 2 students for the 2007 team! Knowing the significance for this modern leap in teaching with DmM digitized and where worldly knowledge also now reaches where it lacks most, beneath the fingertips of future teachers in Mozambique, this day has been saluted.
The day started with the introductions of the pedagogical importance of DmM and how the students accessibility changes the face of their teaching and learning from now to come. Orientations about the electricity and power to the machines, security in the classroom, and maintenance of the equipment and were given and all of the 2007 team went to their respective classrooms and started to solve one task under the section; The World in Which We Live.
So how did it turn out? Like we said in the beginning, revolutionary! We closed the day with presentations and comments from the students themselves.
Some expressed it is a big change to get used to using a keyboard and mouse and laughed with excitement when actually NOW they have the chance to learn it!.
Some entered the Internet looking for the DmM study program that is already installed on their machines. Some could see that flipping through pages and pages of books will not always be necessary because the information is organized in the digital library files. If those do not satisfy then they have realized that one can get online directly and obtain the information that they are searching for. One student says he feels that he is already in a University not “just” in a teacher training college!
All of the students have expressed no matter how difficult this learning curve is they are happy and in fact very grateful they have the opportunity to learn how to manage the computers knowing that it is an important thing that will move them forward. They have expressed with some help from the teachers they will achieve a significant level with the computers and be able to pass it on to the 2008 team! In between all the network kinks to iron out, where the direction of the school and the teachers are also in this unique learning process, the spirit is high and refreshing as we step into the new era. |
